💻 Печатные платы начали делать из грибных отходов

Обычный текстолит делают из стекловолокна и эпоксидной смолы, поэтому материал платы почти не разлагается и трудно перерабатывается.

Немецкие ученые создали экологичную альтернативу — материал из грибной биомассы, которая остается после производства лимонной кислоты.

Вместо обычной утилизации отходы мицелия гриба Aspergillus niger спрессовали и высушили. Получился плотный материал, похожий на пластик. На него можно наносить проводящие дорожки и припаивать электронные компоненты — ученые уже собрали работающий прототип платы.

🔄 После использования грибную основу можно отправить в компост или размочить в воде, отделив транзисторы и другие детали для повторного использования. Углеродный след производства такого материала примерно вдвое ниже, чем у обычной основы для плат.

Заменить платы в смартфонах и компьютерах технология пока не сможет: материал впитывает воду, а его электрические характеристики уступают промышленным аналогам. Сейчас он больше подходит для простых датчиков, игрушек, бытовых устройств и прототипов — техники, которая быстро превращается в мусор.

💻 Printed Circuit Boards Made From Mushroom Waste

Conventional circuit board substrates are made from fiberglass and epoxy resin, making them difficult to recycle and nearly impossible to biodegrade.

German scientists have developed an eco-friendly alternative: a material made from fungal biomass left over from citric acid production.

Instead of being discarded, mycelium waste from the fungus Aspergillus niger is pressed and dried into a dense, plastic-like material. Conductive traces can be applied to its surface, and electronic components can be soldered onto it: researchers have already built a working circuit board prototype.

🔄 Once the device is no longer needed, the mushroom-based substrate can be composted or soaked in water to separate transistors and other components for reuse. The material's production carbon footprint is estimated to be about half that of conventional circuit-board substrates.

For now, the technology cannot replace circuit boards in smartphones or computers: the material absorbs water, and its electrical properties are inferior to industrial alternatives. At this stage, it is better suited for simple sensors, toys, household devices, and prototypes—products that quickly become e-waste.
