Brazilian federal police launched a nationwide operation targeting an alleged transnational drug trafficking and money laundering network that used cryptocurrency brokers, shell companies, and luxury assets to conceal illicit proceeds.

Investigators say the network laundered up to R$1 billion (approximately $1 billion) through a layered financial structure involving crypto intermediaries alongside traditional concealment methods. The operation spanned multiple states and targeted assets including real estate and high-value goods.

The case highlights the continued scrutiny of crypto brokers as potential conduits for illicit finance, particularly in Latin America where enforcement agencies are increasingly tracing criminal proceeds through digital asset channels.

📌 Tom Lee’s BitMine buys more ETH and repurchases 6.1M shares

🔖 BitMine Immersion Technologies said its Ethereum holdings reached 5,787,414 ETH as of July 26 after the company bought another 9,946 tokens during the week. The position equals about 4.8% of Ethereum’s stated 120.7 million supply and leaves BitMine close to its target of owning 5% of all ETH. The company valued its broader portfolio at $11.8 billion using an ETH reference price of $1,948. The total includes 208 BTC, $268 million in cash and marketable securities, a $180 million stake in Beast Industries and a $61 million position in Eightco Holdings. The figures reflect BitMine’s own valuation method.

📣 BitMine calls its plan to acquire 5% of Ethereum’s supply the “Alchemy of 5%.” At the current reported supply, that target equals about 6.04 million ETH. The latest total places the company about 96% of the way there, leaving roughly 247,586 ETH to reach the goal if supply remains unchanged. Chairman Tom Lee said BitMine has bought ETH every week since it started the treasury strategy on June 30, 2025. As cryptonews previously reported, the company held nearly 5.78 million ETH in its prior weekly disclosure. The latest purchase raised that balance by another 9,946 ETH.

🔗 BitMine said it has staked 4,917,189 ETH through its Made in America Validator Network, known as MAVAN, and other partners. That amount represents about 85% of its total ETH holdings. The company valued the staked position at $9.6 billion using the same $1,948 reference price. Lee said current staking operations could generate $254 million in annualised revenue based on a seven-day yield of 2.65%. He also projected annual rewards of $299 million if BitMine stakes its full ETH balance. These are management estimates rather than fixed returns. Ethereum rewards can change with network participation, validator performance and protocol conditions.

Крупнейший банк России — Сбербанк — планирует запустить регулируемую платформу для торговли криптовалютами и цифровой депозитарий к декабрю 2026 года.

На этой неделе случилось кое-что исторически редкое — две биржи закрылись с разницей в три дня. BitMEX (23 июля) и BitMart (26 июля). Обе не рухнули, обе просто ушли сами. Это уже другая эпоха.

Но инфографика напоминает откуда мы пришли — и там жёстко.

Топ провалов: FTX — $8–10 млрд, мошенничество. SBF просто воровал деньги клиентов. Celsius — $4,7 млрд, банкротство. Mt. Gox — $450 млн в 2014-м — кредиторы до сих пор ждут, финальный дедлайн был октябрь 2026. 12 лет.

Главный вывод из таблицы: из 17 крупных провалов только 5 бирж частично вернули деньги. Большинство — нет.

Паттерн по эпохам тоже читается чётко: 2014–2019 умирали от хаков. 2022 умирали от левереджа и заражения (3AC, Terra, FTX). 2023–2026 уходят добровольно — регуляторное давление, невыгодная бизнес-модель, стратегические пересчёты.

BitMEX — изобрёл вечный своп в 2016-м, построил индустрию деривативов. Ушёл с $130 млн штрафов DOJ/CFTC за спиной и несостоявшейся продажей бизнеса. Не банкрот — просто закрылся.

BitMart — $196М хак в 2021-м пережил, а "рыночные условия" в 2026-м не пережил.

Деньги клиентов в обоих случаях в безопасности. И это — прогресс.

За 12 лет индустрия прошла путь от "биржа исчезла вместе с биткоинами" до "биржа закрылась, все выплаты произведены". Медленно, но индустрия взрослеет 📊
