👨 AI Could Detect Your Mood Through Sighs and Laughter
Meta has filed a patent application for an AI system that could monitor a person's emotional state throughout the day. The algorithms would analyze speech, intonation, laughter, and even sighs, then correlate them with the user's location, time of day, activity, and actions on their devices.
For example, the system could notice that someone sighs more often between work meetings, becomes happier while talking to certain people, or feels better at particular times of day. The patent even proposes tracking whether a person's mood changes after taking medication.
All of this data would be combined into a kind of emotional diary. The AI could generate a weekly or monthly report showing not only mood changes, but also excerpts from conversations that served as the basis for its conclusions.
💡 Officially, Meta hopes to use the technology to personalize workouts. But either way, the device would need to continuously monitor the user's emotions and access a vast amount of information from everyday life. A smartphone's or smart glasses' microphones would have to remain active all the time, recording not only the owner but also people around them.
Would you let your smartphone listen to your conversations?
😎 — I have nothing to hide 🤔 — It already does that anyway...
